Old Rockers Keep on Rockin’

A friend of mine went to see Heart in Huntsville on Sunday night.
He called me this morning to tell me how much he enjoyed it. Then he added he’d never been around so many old rockers — both in the audience and on the stage.
But make no mistake, Ann and Nancy Wilson still rock.

Ann is 75 and recovering from cancer. Nancy is 71.
“Close your eyes,” my friend Gary told me, “and they sound just like they do on the records.”
I’ve got a long history with Heart myself. I’ve seen them several times, starting with November 1982 in Huntsville — one of the very first rock concerts I ever attended. A lot of their songs remain classic-rock staples:
Magic Man
Crazy on You
Barracuda — of course, Barracuda.
Like all of us, Ann and Nancy are getting older. But they keep getting back up and getting on stage. Ann got back up from cancer. She performs sitting in a chair now. I understand.
Still — man, can she sing.
Long before the Seattle grunge movement gave us Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Nirvana, Heart was already blazing that trail out of the Pacific Northwest in the 1970s.
After Dorinda and I moved away from Palatka, Florida, I learned something else about Heart. Ann Wilson once owned a lake home there on the St. Johns River — 12 acres, 500 feet of river frontage. She sold it in 2025 for nearly $2 million.
Turns out the house was just down the road from where Dorinda’s boss lived.
We just never knew.
But once I found out, I couldn’t help wondering how many wild rock-and-roll parties we might have missed… and what other rock stars may have passed through.
And in another world…
Would Ann Wilson have invited me to one of those parties?
Of course she would.
